The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that 3.1 million international visitors traveled to the U.S. in January 2009, a decrease of 9 percent compared to January 2008. International visitors spent $10.6 billion in January 2009, a 7 percent decrease compared to January 2008.
Africa’s international links are to receive a significant lift with news that Emirates is to start flights to Angola, its 17th African destination. The Dubai - Luanda service, which begins August 2nd, will operate three times a week –on a Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Dubai is throwing caution to the downturn wind by announcing it is launching its first low-cost carrier on 1 June. Flydubai will start flying from Dubai to the Lebanese capital Beirut on 1 June and to Jordan’s capital Amman on 2 June, company chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al-Maktoum announced at a press conference.
