The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has raised alerts as an area of low pressure near the Cabo Verde Islands shows increasing signs of tropical development, potentially posing a threat to the Caribbean and Florida over the next week.

Meteorologists report that the disturbance, currently classified as an invest, has about a 60% chance of developing into a tropical depression within 48 hours, with environmental conditions such as warm sea surface temperatures and low wind shear favoring further intensification.

This system is being closely monitored due to its projected westward track across the tropical Atlantic, which could bring heavy rains, strong winds, and dangerous surf conditions to islands in the Eastern Caribbean, including Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and the Leeward Islands. Forecasters also warn that Florida's southeast coast should remain vigilant as the system could approach the peninsula by late next week.

In addition, another tropical wave located in the central Atlantic shows signs of gradual organization but currently holds a lower chance of development. However, forecasters stress that conditions can change rapidly, and all coastal residents should stay informed.

Authorities in the Caribbean and Florida are urged to prepare for possible tropical storm warnings or hurricane watches if the systems strengthen as expected. The public is advised to review their emergency plans, ensure adequate supplies, and follow updates from official weather services.
