Costa Rica Welcomed 1.2 Million Visitors in First Half of 2022

During the first six months of 2022, Costa Rica logged the arrival of 1,223,764 tourists through all ports of entry; of these, 1,120,576 (91.6%) by air, according to data from the General Directorate of Migration and Immigration analyzed by the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism. 

By air, the country received from January to June 70.9% of the visitors who arrived in the same pre-pandemic period, when 1,725,963 tourists.

The United States remains the main issuing market with the arrival of 690,249 tourists in the first semester, reporting in June the arrival of 134,187 tourists by air, equivalent to a positive variation of 3.5% increase compared to the same period, prior to the start of the pandemic in 2019.

From Europe, the figures indicate that the United Kingdom, France and Germany became the largest emitters of tourists in the semester by air with 36,270, 35,366 and 32,894 tourists, respectively.

A total of 206,388 tourists have arrived from the Old Continent in the first six months of 2022.
