Spain’s Tourism Sector Set to Surpass €260 Billion in 2025, Says WTTC

Spain’s travel and tourism sector is on track to reach a new record in 2025, with an estimated €260.5 billion contribution to GDP, representing nearly 16% of the national economy, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). This would mark a 4.7% year-on-year increase and solidify tourism’s role as a key economic engine for the country.
The WTTC’s Economic Impact Research, conducted with Oxford Economics, also projects that tourism will support 3.2 million jobs in Spain by 2025—14.4% of total national employment. International visitor spending is forecast to grow by 5.7%, reaching €113.2 billion, while domestic spending could hit €84.9 billion, up 2.4% year-on-year.
“Spain remains a true global tourism powerhouse,” said Julia Simpson, President and CEO of WTTC. “With strong growth, quality job creation, and a focus on sustainability and innovation, Spain is well positioned to lead the future of global tourism.”
In 2024, the sector recorded its best performance since 2019, contributing €248.7 billion to GDP (15.6% of the economy) and supporting 3 million jobs. International tourism spending rose by 10.9% to €107.1 billion, while domestic spending grew 2.2% to €82.9 billion. Leisure travel dominated spending with 88.3%, compared to 11.7% for business travel.
By 2035, WTTC forecasts the sector could grow to €315.7 billion, accounting for over 17% of GDP and supporting 4 million jobs, reinforcing its long-term economic impact.
