In a briefing today in Kingston, Jamaica’s Ministry of Tourism provided a sober but hopeful update on the island’s recovery following the devastating Hurricane Melissa late last year.

Officials estimate that while 70% of the island's room inventory is currently back online, a full recovery to pre-hurricane arrival levels is not expected until the end of 2026.

The government is using this reconstruction period to fast-track infrastructure updates, including new highway connectivity and a "redefined" cruise port experience in Falmouth.

Despite the challenges, investor confidence remains high, with five "mega-resort" developments, including the Unico Hotel Collection, continuing construction through January.

The island is also seeing a surge in digital nomads and remote workers who are taking advantage of new eSIM technology and long-stay incentives in Negril and Montego Bay.

Travelers are advised to check the latest travel advisories, which currently suggest a high degree of caution due to ongoing infrastructure repairs in rural areas.
