The Bahamas to Host the Global Sustainable Tourism Council Conference 2027
The Bahamas has been selected to host the 2027 Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Conference. Scheduled for May 18–21, 2027, the event will mark the first time this prestigious global gathering is held in the Caribbean.
The conference will be headquartered at the British Colonial Nassau and the Margaritaville Beach Resort Nassau, positioning the archipelago as a regional pioneer in sustainability and environmental stewardship.
The selection of The Bahamas underscores the nation's tangible efforts in ecosystem restoration and responsible tourism management. These achievements gained significant international momentum earlier this year at the 2026 PATWA International Travel Awards in Berlin, where Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper was honored as the "Sustainable Tourism Minister of the Year." The 2027 summit will serve as a platform for The Bahamas to share its blueprint for destination resilience with the world.
The conference is expected to draw approximately 400 delegates, including public policy leaders, investors, and sustainability experts. As the independent body that sets the global baseline for sustainable travel, the GSTC will utilize this forum to foster the exchange of knowledge and create policies that strengthen the long-term viability of small island developing states (SIDS). This gathering is particularly critical as the industry navigates the climate challenges and economic shifts predicted for the late 2020s.
Latia Duncombe, Director General of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, highlighted that hosting the event in 2027 will demonstrate how a multi-island destination can operationalize sustainability at scale. Following the official flag-over ceremony in Phuket, Thailand, The Bahamas has formally begun preparations for an event that is set to define the Caribbean's green tourism roadmap for the next decade. This hosting duty is seen as a major investment in the country’s brand equity and its future as a competitive, nature-positive destination.
