American Airlines plans to launch new routes to and from the Dominican Republic on July 1 if the carrier’s recent applications to the Dominican Civil Aviation Board are approved.

The flights would operate from the international airports in Santo Domingo and Samana on American Eagle, a subsidiary of American Airlines.

If approved, the new routes would add more than 150,000 passengers per year to the Dominican Republic in the first year of operation, according to an American Airlines representative.

The new routes include San Juan to Samana; Santo Domingo to Port au Prince, Haiti; Santo Domingo to Curacao; and Santo Domingo to Caracas, Venezuela.

Already approved, Delta will launch daily, nonstop service from Fort Lauderdale to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on June 7. The service is in addition to Delta’s new Dominican Republic flights from Atlanta to Santiago and Puerto Plata and from New York (Kennedy) to Punta Cana.
