Barcelona Hotel Turned into Me by Melia Lodging
The Spanish hotel chain Sol Melia, together with a group of partners (Caja Mediterráneo-CAM, Invernostra and Caja Duero) has acquired the Hotel Sky Barcelona. The hotel will be added to the Sol Melia portfolio under a management agreement through the ME by Melia brand.
Sol Melia will be the largest shareholder in the future ME Barcelona and the hotel is scheduled to open during the third quarter of current year, extending the portfolio of ME by Melia hotels already operating in Spain and Mexico: the ME Madrid, ME Cancun and ME Cabo (Cabo San Lucas).
The deal is valued at 103 million euros and is another sign of the Sol Melia commitment to the cutting-edge city of Barcelona, and a welcome addition to the supply of superior quality hotels in the city, a segment which now stands at 5.4 percent of the total hotel supply, with recent surveys indicating a total of 22 five star hotels at year end.
The acquisition of Sky Barcelona extends Sol Melia’s penetration of the Catalan market. The Company already operates 11 hotels in the region, a number of which have led the brand renovation process currently under way at the hotel chain.
For Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, also Joint Vice Chairman and CEO of Sol Melia, the deal “is another sign of the company’s current strength and our clear intent to continue to grow in superior category hotels, keeping up our commitment to cutting-edge design, superior comfort and the highest level of service for our guests”.
Guests at the ME Barcelona may also choose from an extensive range of different types of room, with the 259 total rooms providing a perfect response to guests’ needs and desires and always with magnificent panoramic views of the city.
