Caribbean Airlines, BA to Launch Codeshare Service
Caribbean Airlines, which will replace British West Indies Airways as the national carrier of Trinidad and Tobago on January 1, has partnered with British Airways to offer daily flights from Barbados and Trinidad to London’s Gatwick Airport codeshare agreement, effective March 25.
On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the Boeing 777 flights will originate in Trinidad, stop in Barbados and continue to Gatwick. The remainder of the week, the flight will originate in Barbados, but Caribbean Airlines will offer a 737 shuttle service from Trinidad to Barbados to connect with the Gatwick flight.
Currently, BWIA and British Airways offer a daily code share flight to London’s Heathrow Airport from Trinidad with en route stops in Antigua, Barbados and St. Lucia, depending on the day of the week.
That service, which will continue through March 27, will assume the Caribbean Airlines’ name on January 1, the official launch date of the carrier. At that time the BWIA name will cease to exist.
