Jamaica played host to the Eighth Annual Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference at the Ritz Carlton Golf and Spa of Montego Bay in an effort to bring more capitals to the region.

The event was organized by the Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA), the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and Burba’s Hotel Network for experts in the fields of economics, finance, investment and tourism development to discuss key issues for the advance of the region’s travel industry.

The annual meeting got cracking with a debate about a research study on business opportunities in the Caribbean conducted by the ProInvest Project, a program attached to the Asian, Caribbean and Pacific Group (ACP) and the European Union that seeks the promotion of investment and the transfer of technology to ACP member states.

This is the first stage of a series of activities that ProInvest is piecing together with CHA, CTO, the World Travel and Tour Council and the Hotels and Restaurants Association. ProInvest’s primary goal is to foster the creation of travel associations between European companies and Caribbean firms.

The Annual Hotel and Tourism Investment Conference came into being in 1997 with a view to raise both investment levels and tourism operations in the region, as well as to make investors from around the world be aware of the development choices this region has to offer.
