Club Med in Bahamas Pushes Back Reopening due to Hurricane Damage

Club Med Columbus Isle on San Salvador Island in the Out Islands of the Bahamas was damaged in Hurricane Joaquin and has pushed its reopening date from Oct. 18 to  Dec. 20.

The 216-room resort was in its annual closure period when the storm hit on Oct. 2, so no guests were at the resort as the storm passed. A small team of staff and suppliers was on site, but no injuries were reported.

Preliminary assessments indicated no major structural damage, although there was damage to roofs, water intrusion in some areas and the loss of hundreds of palm trees.

The initial assessment from the Bahamas Electric Co. to repair the power generator facility on San Salvador was three to five weeks.

Club Med is offering options to guests impacted by the reopening delay to reschedule their visits.
