Costa Rica Attracts Tourism from Switzerland
The Embassy of Costa Rica in Switzerland reports high interest in our country at a recent Travel and Tourism Expo in the large city of Basel, which is strategically located right on the border with France and Germany.
According to an institutional communiqué issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Costa Rica was represented along with the Embassies of Chile, Peru and Venezuela at the event as part of a special exhibit denominated as “”Barrio Latino” (Latin Quarter).
Along with the standard tourist fare that is presented at these events, Costa Rica was able to showcase a bit of nightlife and some agricultural products. Two specialized travel agencies contributed to the exhibit, and one of them is thoroughly experienced in marketing Costa Rica as a tourist destination to the nice people of Switzerland.
This agency in particular has participated in similar events in Berne, Lucerne and Zurich. The other travel agency specializes in highly personal tours of the Caribbean region of our country; this agency impressed attendees because it is a family-owned enterprise led by a woman.
Another family-owned enterprise at the expo gave attendees the opportunity to taste coffee and other agricultural products from the Naranjo region, located in the province of Alajuela. A show by professional salsa dancers promoted nightlife and dance academies in the Central Valley.
According to Ambassador Isabel Montero of Costa Rica, the exhibit garnered great interest among those in attendance. Over the last few years, the National Board of Tourism (Spanish initials: ICT) has been focusing on attracting a greater number of European travelers to our country. To this effect, a greater number of airlines have already expressed interest in offering flights to Costa Rica from various airports across Europe.
