Curacao Eases Visa Policy

An easing of Curacao’s visa policy will apply to people from Colombia, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Bolivia and the Schengen Areas starting May 1 of this year, according to the Minister of Justice Nelson Navarro. The main reason given is the growth of the economy.

Navarro indicated that this easing of the policy is also an important part of discussions and negotiations with the other members of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, within the pre-defined agreements on visa policy. This is due to the fact that crime is no longer bounded by national borders.

At this time, however, economic development is the main driver to make it (somewhat) easier for certain visa holders to visit Curacao.

In certain circumstances, people who fall under National Decree PB 2007 No. 71 are no longer required to meet the visa requirements and applies to those who have Colombian, Haitian, Dominican, Peruvian and Bolivian citizenship, and who have a multiple entry visa which is valid for Canada, US and the Schengen area. The residence of the person holding this visa must be within the validity of the multiple entry visa. This flexibility also applies to children under 12 years of age traveling with their parents. The parents should have the above mentioned visa.

Individuals who have a multiple entry visa exclusively for the Schengen area are also covered under the policy easing. At a later time, this relaxation will be ratified in the Admission Ordinance.
