Grand Cayman Marriott Shows No Signs of Ivan Damage

The 307-room Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort is back in full operation, following a $15 million renovation project to repair Hurricane Ivan damage in 2004.

All rooms now offer high-speed wireless Internet, balconies and marble bathrooms; the La Mer Spa added 1,500 square feet, including four treatment rooms and a couples suite with a Jacuzzi; and meetings facilities also were expanded by 4,500 square feet.

The restaurants were reinvented with new names and cuisine. Solana on Seven Mile Beach offers al fresco dining while the Red Parrot, a steak and seafood bistro, features a new Caribbean-fusion menu.

Beach improvements include a $250,000 investment in reef balls, which will help retain sand and attract sea life, providing on-site snorkeling. Red Sail Sports dive shop now offers a dive program with certification, video and photography.

The additional beachfront area also permits access to catamarans and other boats directly from the resort.
