During the month of April, the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB) hosts three of the main international conferences in the medical and pharmaceutical sector, attracting almost 10,000 specialists to Barcelona.

From 19 to 22 April, the centre will be the venue for the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID) which will be attended by more than 8,000 specialists and on 25 and 26 April it will host the meeting of the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons with 300 professionals expected to attend.

These two events can be added to the recent World Meeting on Pharmaceutics, Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology, which was attended by 1,300 representatives.

These three medical congresses will have an economic impact on the city of Barcelona to the tune of around 12.5 million euros in spending on both accommodation and meals.

According to Felix Martinez, the new general manager of the CCIB, “the decision to hold these two events here is evidence of the excellent positioning of the complex managed by GL Events CCIB and by extension Barcelona as a venue for these large technical conferences”.

Medical and pharmaceutical sector meetings represent 31 percent of the more than 330 events hosted by the CCIB since it opened at the end of 2004. Recently, the CCIB was the headquarters of the DIA Euromeeting, an event attended by more than 3.000 specialists from the pharmaceutical sector.

In May, it will host this year’s Congress of the European Association for Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EuroPCR), which will be attended by 12,000 representatives.

And in the coming months it will be the venue for the World Congress on Gastrointestinal Cancer (GI Cancer), with more than 2,500 attendees, as well as the Meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, which will attract more than 5,000 experts.
