Grenada Seeking to Woo Tourists from Trinidad & Tobago
The Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) is seeking to increase tourism to the island by hosting a series of promotional activities in Trinidad and Tobago.
The scheduled activities include two travel agent expos, a consumer show and a news conference which was held at the Radisson Hotel, Wrightson Road, Port of Spain.
GTA officials say the aim is to promote Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique as ideal destinations for both fun and relaxation.
Speaking yesterday, GTA CEO Rudy Grant said tourism from T&T is extremely important to Grenada as more than 50 per cent of the island’s Caribbean visitors come from T&T. He said the largest percentage of persons visiting for business and conventions are also from T&T.
Grant said Grenada has a lot to offer by way of entertainment, culture and nature. He described the island’s natural appeal, saying Grenada is home to the first under-water sculpture park, an abundance of waterfalls, a recently opened amusement park, beautiful beaches and rainforests.
“Grenada is very unique because within minutes you can go from a white, sandy beach into a rainforest,” he said.
He added that Grenada was the only country in the Caribbean that can boast of this.
Visitors can expect a full Grenadian experience that is second to none, he said.
Grenadian Minister of Culture and Heritage Brenda Hood also encouraged locals to visit the island saying inter-Caribbean tourism plays an important role in the tourism industry.
“We in Grenada understand the importance of tourism and culture,” she said. “This is why we are here because we know that it is important and we have to promote our culture and our tourism industry.”
Hood said “Spice Mas” which is scheduled for August 1-11, is a good opportunity for persons to visit and experience Grenada’s culture.
