Honduran Hotels Report an 80 Percent Occupancy on Eve of Holy Week

Honduras’s major sightseeing cities are sporting an 80 percent occupancy rate in most of the hotels, with scores of Central American trekkers –mostly hailing from El Salvador and Guatemala- checking in, said Anastasio Anastassious, president of the Honduras Hotel Association (AHAH is the Spanish acronym).

Mr. Anastassious noted there’re still accommodations available for Holy Week vacationers willing to book a hotel room in the country.

Resorts in Puerto Cortes and Tela still have one third of their rooms up for grabs.

With the proximity of the Holy Week festivities, authorities expect to have sellout crowds in the hotels of the country’s major tourist regions and on the Bahia Islands.

The overall availability of hotel rooms in the nation’s five beach cities (Omoa, Puerto Cortes, Tela, La Ceiba and Trujillo) hovers around 8,000 accommodations. Sources close to the sector expect as many as 20,000 people to book rooms in those five burgs.
