Karisma Hotels & Resorts struck an agreement with Nickelodeon parent Viacom to develop Nickelodeon-branded resorts in the Dominican Republic and Mexico.

The companies said that the Nickelodeon Punta Cana would open by the end of 2016, and that a resort would open in Mexico “shortly thereafter.” No further details about room counts or the Mexico location were disclosed.

The upscale, all-inclusive family resorts will feature appearances by Nickelodeon characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer.

Monday’s announcement follows an agreement late last year between Karisma and Viacom, in which Nickelodeon characters will join guests at dining venues at Karisma’s Azul resorts in Mexico and Jamaica starting this summer.

The first Nickelodeon hotel opened in 2005 in Orlando. That independent hotel is not affiliated with Karisma.

Karisma’s resort brands are Azul, Generations, El Dorado and Allure. Most of its properties are on Mexico's Riviera Maya.
