Mexico’s airfares rank sixth among the priciest worldwide
Mexico._ Fees charged for the use of facilities and services in Mexico City’s Benito Juarez Airport rank sixth among the world’s most expensive ones, as concluded in a recently disclosed research study entitled.
The report –pieced together by the Center for Economic Studies of the Private Sector (CEESP) links the result to “a critical period” the aeronautical sector is going through right now in the face of normative problems heightened by a decrease in tourism and the skyrocketing cost of air insurance.
The press release cites the price of aircraft fuel in Mexico –roughly 6% above the international average tag in 2001- as another damaging factor to the airlines’ financial fabrics.
Other unfavorable conditions outlined by the CEESP range from an insufficient official policy toward the air-travel sector to the delay in the privatization process of Mexican airlines as a result of political pressures.
