Old Bahama Bay Resort Closes for a Month
The 73-suite Old Bahama Bay Resort in West End, Grand Bahama, closed on Sept. 9 for one month, putting most of its remaining 30 employees out of work during that period.
The resort had already laid off 100 workers several weeks ago, citing low occupancy levels. The marina at the resort will remain open for boaters and yachtsmen.
The beachfront resort is part of the massive Ginn sur Mer development, which will include a 400-unit condo-hotel, 1,000 private homes, a golf course, a marina and spa when completed.
Ginn sur Mer spokesman Ryan Julison said that all workers’ jobs would be available when Old Bahama Bay reopens Oct. 8.
The temporary layoffs follow similar actions taken recently by several properties in the Bahamas, including the Riu Paradise Island, Sandals Royal Bahamian and Wyndham Nassau.
