Following a strong picking up speed in the second half of the year, inbound tourism in Peru is expected to post a 7 percent growth by year-end 2014, Peruvian Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) said.

Magali Silva, Mincetur’s head, said that during the period ended May the above-mentioned sector recorded an expansion of 3.7 percent driven by the travel trade sector.

“In 2013, the domestic tourism industry in the Andean nation went up by 11.2 percent while this year’s growth target is set at between 7 percent to 8 percent,” the minister told Andina news agency.

She continued, “The sector is carrying out new advertising campaigns promoting overseas the country’s high-profile tourist destinations in order to achieve an increase ranging from 6 percent to 7 percent”.

She said that recently-launched campaigns are focus on markets where potential consumers have a much more quickly response such as in southern neighboring Chile.

“We have seen a recovery in the number of tourists from Chile entering Peru in June and July,” she added.
