SolMelia.com Hit New Record High with over 100 million euros Worth of Sales in 2006
Sol Melia, the leading hotel chain in Spain and the Caribbean, surpassed the figure of 100 million of net sales through its website at solmelia.com in December, ending the month with a total of 103 million euros for the past year.
The traffic figures for solmelia.com also saw tremendous growth with the number of visits growing 23 percent to 31 million, and the number of hotel searches up 80 percent to almost 21 million.
Also for the first time since the site was launched in 1997, sales in languages other than Spanish overtook Spanish sales, while sales of resort hotels exceeded those of city hotels. The most important market, nevertheless, continues to be the domestic Spanish niche, accounting for nearly half of the sales, with the German, American, British and French markets leading the pack.
The most sought-after destinations on the Spanish hotel chain’s website were Mexico and the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean and Madrid, the Costa Blanca and Majorca in Spain. In the rest of Europe the most coveted destination was Italy.
