Sonesta Plans New Sonesta Mikado Miami Hotel
The Sonesta Mikado Hotel Miami will join the Sonesta Collection of luxury hotel properties, according to an announcement from Florida East Coast Realty (FECR) and Sonesta International Hotels Corporation.
Sonesta Mikado will be the Sonesta Collection’s latest property in Miami. Located in the Arts & Entertainment District in downtown, the 252-key Sonesta Mikado will offer a culturally rich urban setting. Construction will begin in early 2009 with the hotel scheduled to open in 2011. Sonesta Mikado will be developed by FECR and managed by Sonesta.
The 40-story mixed-use hotel with office space and luxury residences will feature a full-service upscale restaurant, pool bar and grille, 14,000 square feet of flexible banquet and meeting space, fitness center and destination spa, and a 12th floor pool deck with a view of downtown and the Port of Miami.
Designed with a modern Asian theme by the firm of Zyscovich Architects, Mikado takes its name from The Mikado, the famous Japanese opera by Gilbert and Sullivan. The hotel will feature Far East undertones, and contemporary décor and luxurious upscale amenities in guest rooms.
