UK to Set Record Visitation of £22.2 Billion in 2015
Tourists spending in the UK is said to touch a record of £22.2bn in 2015 according to forecasts made by VisitBritain’s Culture Secretary Sajid Javid.
In 2013 people spent £20bn and 2014 saw a promising growth of £21.3bn.The growth will be continuous and moving upward in 2015.
The number of overseas visitors is expected to rise to 35.1 million in 2015 which will be 2.5 per cent more from 2014.
“Britain has so much to offer to tourists with our stunning countryside, great heritage and world-class sport and culture. Working closely with the tourism industry we will continue to champion the UK abroad as part of our long-term economic plan, “said that Secretary.
There are many factors such as the Olympic Games and Dimond Jubilee that have drawn a great deal of attention from foreign visitation into Britain he added.
Regions like Yorkshire attracted 168,000 overseas visitors during July, August and September 2013 – an increase of 37.7 per cent. The total expenditure rose to £68m in the region over the period. This set a new summer record compared to 2012.
York was the most visited city in Yorkshire owing to its historical sites and enthralling countryside. Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors and part of the Peak District – were visited by a quarter of those holidaying only in Yorkshire.
Inflow of Chinese tourists has been very strong over the past four years and strategies are being laid to attract more Chinese tourists to visit the UK and its prime locations in 2015.
