A major U.S. resort developer expects to enter the Turks and Caicos tourism market with a luxury 251-unit oceanfront complex aimed at divers.

Wyndham Hotels and Resorts said the Cacique Royale Beach Resort is being developed this year by Prestigious Properties Ltd., a real estate brokerage firm in the British Caribbean dependency.

Plans call for oceanfront beach cottages and suites in 14 low-rise buildings on the west coast of Grand Turk Island. Specifics of the deal were not disclosed in the company’s statement Monday.

Tourism is the primary industry in the Turks and Caicos Islands, an eight-island chain with an expansive barrier reef system.
