
Caribbean airline Air Jamaica is playing an integral role in Caribbean Week in New York activities which got underway this weekend.
Brazilian airline VRG S.A., the GOL-controlled carrier operating the VARIG brand, will begin offering a second daily flight to Frankfurt on June 16, adding seven additional daily flights per week to the German city.
Air Dominicana, a charter airline in the Dominican Republic in which the Dominican government is a minority partner, was established in early May with headquarters in Santo Domingo, according to tourism minister Felix Jimenez.
Air Jamaica will drop its Kingston-London Heathrow route, on which it reportedly was losing $20 to $25 million annually, and sold its LHR landing and takeoff slots to Virgin Atlantic Airways, according to media reports out of London and Jamaica.
Frontier won final approval from the Transportation Dept. to extend its route system to San Jose, Costa Rica, and began taking reservations for the new service, which will begin November 30.
TACA and Lufthansa intend to cooperate closely in future under a memorandum of understanding signed by representatives of the two airlines. Their objective, among others, is to begin codesharing on national and international routes.
