After a handful of delays that kept it from opening for years, Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina finally opened its doors in the British Virgin Islands in 2010, but the five-star luxury resort has had its share of obstacles ever since.
Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels today released its bilingual research study, Lodging Industry in Numbers – Brazil 2011, which reveals that Brazil's continued high economic growth is spurring high revenue per available room (RevPAR) growth in the hotel sector for the second consecutive year.
Sunset Resorts, the trio of all-inclusive resorts in Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Negril, Jamaica, is launching a loyalty program to reward repeat guests. Sunset Resorts also marks September as the celebratory month for returning guests with special rates, discounts and activities.
The Magdalena Grand Beach Resort will open its doors in Tobago in November. The 200-room oceanfront hotel will feature five fine and casual dining options, an 18-hole PGA-designed championship golf course, expansive beachfront, multiple swimming pools, flexible meeting/event space and the newest spa on the island.
STR Global issued its 2011 Global Construction Pipeline Report update for July. The Central/South America hotel development pipeline comprises 170 hotels totaling 27,457 rooms, according to the July report. As of June 30, 12 projects have opened in the region with 1,711 rooms. There are 34 more projects expected to open in the remainder of 2011 with 6,338 rooms. In 2012, there are 42 projects scheduled to open with 6,741 rooms.
