Sandals Resorts and its sister brand, Beaches Resorts, have undertaken major expansions of their properties in Antigua and Turks & Caicos, representing a combined investment of $170 million. Sandals Antigua Caribbean Village & Spa is investing $70 million to build a 180-suite Mediterranean Village, scheduled to open in December.
The San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino has begun phase one of a $35 million renovation to keep the 32 year-old building in sync with the latest in luxury resorts. The finished product will result in a grand lobby, updated casino, refreshed ballroom, and guest rooms with a new Latin Caribbean look.
The Ceiba del Mar Spa Resort on the Riviera Maya will reopen August 1 following a major renovation due to Hurricane Wilma. The resort will reopen with fewer rooms, 88 in all, but larger master suites and penthouses. Sales and marketing will be handled by Miami-based Villa del Sol Marketing, the company that also markets the Hotel Villa del Sol in Zihuatanejo.
The Occidental Grand Aruba will reopen on Palm Beach in Aruba today following a $42 million renovation and upgrade program of the former Allegro-branded resort. The 391 guest rooms, reduced from 402, feature mini bars, satellite TVs, personal safes and an outdoor patios or terraces.
