St. Lucia has begun the construction of a multi-million dollar hotel project in the east of the island. The Sapphire Cove Hotel is being built at an estimated cost of US$380 million and should be completed by 2007.
The new hotel project is being developed in the village of Laborie and
officials say it is likely to be the most sophisticated hotel project in the
Eastern Caribbean. When completed, it will consist of holiday villages, a hotel and spa and a mix of privately owned house, town houses and condominiums.
The Dominican Republic is putting on its best bib and tucker for the Saturday 14 grand opening of the first-ever Cap Cana Hotel in a ceremony likely to be attended by Dominican President Leonel Fernandez.
The new facility –built by the guidelines of late architect Andres Piñeiro- will feature 180 grand deluxe suites that will surely make it one of the Caribbean´s fanciest lodgings.

Viva Wyndham Resorts has just put two brand-new hotels under its belt in the Dominican Republic, pushing the tally up to five lodgings in that Caribbean nation. The Viva Wyndham Samana and the Viva Wyndham Playa Dorada are now raising the chain’s stock of accommodations there to 1,473 rooms.

Spanish group Iberostar will enhance its operations in Brazil with the grand opening of a deluxe cruise route down the Amazonian River. The initial price tag of the entire operation will exceed $250 million in tourist infrastructure.
The Iberostar Grand Amazon is the first of two five-star floating hotels to be run by Iberostar Hotels & Resorts in the South American nation.
American hotel chain Sonesta will hang out its shingle in Argentina by opening lodging facilities in ten cities as part of its expansion plan throughout the entire region, local newspaper Hoy reported today.
The US company has inked contracts to build a couple of hotels in Buenos Aires. Groubd-breaking works for one of those establishments are supposed to get cracking by the end of the ongoing year.
