At the 43rd Annual Florida Governor’s Conference on Tourism, taking place Sept. 26 to 28, 3010, at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate, Visit Florida President and CEO Chris Thompson along with Visit Florida Chief Marketing Officer Will Seccombe announced three major new strategic initiatives for the coming year. Social media, mobile applications and content will be the main focus of the state tourism marketing corporation’s promotional activities.

The Mexico Tourism Board joined The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), an international partnership dedicated to promoting sustainable tourism practices around the world. Founded in partnership by the World Tourism Organization, the United Nations Environment Program, UN Foundation, Rainforest Alliance, Sabre/Travelocity and others, the GSTC is open to any member of the travel and tourism industries.

Jamaica is offering a variety of fall travel packages featuring activities ranging from golf to catamaran excursions and spa retreats. The GoldenEye Hotel & Resort in Oracabessa on Jamaica’s north coast will open Nov. 12, 2010, with a special introductory rate of $536 per night. The rate is available for travel from Nov. 12, 2010 to April 30, 2011.

Spain currently contributes about 2 percent to the overall tourist arrivals per year to Seychelles, but the country is now determined to capture a bigger share of that market with the reopening of a tourist office in Madrid. The chief executive officer of the Seychelles Tourism Board, Alain St. Ange, has hailed Seychelles President James Michel’s recent announcement during his state visit in Spain, that Seychelles will be making a comeback on this market.

A $66 million investment in the tourism sector has been announced by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos on Monday and said that the industry’s growth had stagnated because of security issues.

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) is preparing for a platform change to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances of the travel industry. In an attempt to remain relevant to its members, PATA initiated a plan for creating a platform of change over the last few years, which required the organization to take a phased development approach.
