Regional Integration, Sustainable Development Anchor Caribbean Week in New York
The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) officially inaugurated Caribbean Week in New York 2026 on June 1, matching the start of Caribbean-American Heritage Month in the United States.
Assembling a high-powered delegation of tourism ministers, destination marketing executives, and private-sector stakeholders, the flagship industry forum serves as a critical operational junction for long-term tourism leadership.
Operating under the unifying theme “One Caribbean: Infinite Experiences,” the week-long summit focuses heavily on cross-border collaboration, structural innovation, and the advancement of sustainable destination management across the island nations.
The official opening ceremonies, hosted at the InterContinental New York Times Square, feature keynote addresses from Ian Gooding-Edghill, Chairman of the CTO and Minister of Tourism and International Transport for Barbados, alongside Albert Bryan Jr., Governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Throughout the week, delegates will monitor key structural priorities, including data intelligence integration, emerging air connectivity dynamics, and critical tourism infrastructure upgrades. These discussions are engineered to help regional operators maximize hotel occupancy and elevate high-yield leisure travel development across the Caribbean basin.
Empowering Women Leaders and Next-Generation Talent
A central highlight of the inaugural itinerary is the Caribbean Women in Tourism Leadership Awards and Dinner.
Christine Valls, Chief Operating Officer for Latin America and the Caribbean at United Airlines, will deliver the keynote address, highlighting the evolving intersections of aviation logistics and regional tourism growth.
The evening will also serve as the official launching pad for “From Her for Her” (De ella para ella), a targeted supply-side initiative designed by the CTO to mentor, support, and empower the next generation of female executives stepping into corporate and political tourism roles.
By shifting the dialogue from basic promotional concepts toward high-level policy alignment, the CTO aims to strengthen international trade alliances and safeguard the competitive sovereignty of its member states.
Workshops held across the week will explore practical avenues for youth entrepreneurship, digital transition, and crisis resilience. This comprehensive focus on cultural connection and unified strategy ensures that as global travel recovery balances out through the late 2020s, the Caribbean's visitor economy remains a highly organized, lucrative, and forward-looking market.
