In the highly competitive contest for authority to operate a new daily flight to China, American Airlines (AA) has garnered unprecedented public and civic support for its proposed Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Beijing service.

The depth and breadth of support reflects the fact that American offers something that none of the other three competitors has proposed –both a new gateway to China and strengthened airline competition.

Letters of support for AA have been sent to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) by 108 members of Congress, including 32 senators from 19 states and 76 representatives from 20 states.

In addition, American received support from 15 governors, including Bob Riley of Alabama, Thomas J. Vilsack of Iowa, Ernie Fletcher of Kentucky, Dave Heineman of Nebraska, Michael Easley of North Carolina, Brad Henry of Oklahoma and Phil Bredesen of Tennessee.

American Airlines is the world’s largest airline. American, American Eagle and the AmericanConnection airlines serve 250 cities in over 40 countries with more than 4,000 daily flights. The combined network fleet numbers more than 1,000 aircraft.
