U.S. Travel to International Destinations Up 6 Percent through October
New data released by the U.S. Commerce Departments’ Office of Travel and Tourism Industries show that U.S. international outbound travel is up 6 percent year-to-date through October, the most recent month for which figures are available.
A total of 51.2 million U.S. citizens traveled out of the country during the first 10 months of 2012.
The most popular place to travel overseas from the U.S. was Europe, which had 9.9 million U.S. citizens come through its borders from January 2012 to October. The Caribbean was the second-most popular destination, with 5.4 million travelers, and Asia rounded out the top three, with 3.6 million visitors.
North American travel totaled 27 million, with Mexico attracting 16.4 million U.S, citizens and Canada attracting 10.5 million.
