The early-bird arrival on Wednesday of the first group of travel agents linked to German tour operator Meier’s Weltreisen marked the beginning of the 2007 Mega Fam trip to this fabulous Caribbean travel destination.

A first contingent of agents and partner representatives working for Meier’s –over a hundred of them signed up for the event- touched down in Varadero, one of world’s most sought-after beaches and Cuba’s flagship travel destination.

Despite the long-haul flight from Germany, coupled with the jetlag, the visitors made the most of day one and wallowed in the services offered at hotels like Breezes Varadero and Costa Playa, a couple of five-star facilities perched on this long beach strip of Matanzas, a province in western Cuba.

A hundred visitors from Germany, Switzerland and Austria make up the group that Meier’s has put together for this familiarization journey that will stretch into September 19.

“This particular experience will put them in a much better position to sell Cuba as a travel destination,” said Martina Beeken, head of Meier’s Division for Central America, South America and the Caribbean, as well as other travel destinations worldwide.

The 2007 Mega Fam will also bring aboard a group of travel agents with outstanding sales results that will tour the island nation’s hotels, historic and cultural centers, and sightseeing spots that cater to tourists all across the country, from the eastern province of Holguin to Pinar del Rio, the westernmost territory.
