The government of Brazil announced upgrades to its electronic visa system, reducing processing times to less than 48 hours for travelers from key markets including the United States, Canada and Australia.

The move aims to recover international tourism demand after a slower-than-expected year in 2025. Industry leaders say visa friction has hindered Brazil’s ability to compete against other Latin American destinations.

Authorities are also introducing a digital visa-on-arrival option in select airports beginning in early 2026, giving Brazil one of the most flexible entry systems in the region.

Tourism officials say the reforms will stimulate growth in sectors such as ecotourism, luxury travel and long-stay digital nomads—segments with high spending and low seasonality.

Brazil continues to focus on promoting Amazon and Pantanal adventure itineraries, but officials note that urban tourism in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo remains strong.

Industry experts believe that simplified entry procedures will encourage airlines to add new direct routes from North America and Europe, helping diversify the country’s tourism demand.

With these upgrades, Brazil intends to position itself as a leader in digital entry systems within Latin America, aligning with global post-pandemic travel trends.
